Elegant, tasteful and always in style, Afternoon Tea captures a historic tradition that is continually reinvented with a contemporary edge. The same could be said of its latest locale – The Cedar Rooms at Farnham Estate.

The intimate 40-cover restaurant sits within the County Cavan hotel’s historically handsome old cut-stone building that originally housed the estate managers who looked after the land over its 400-year history. The Cedar Rooms is named after one of Farnham’s oldest trees, the magnificent Cedar of Lebanon that stands proud on the estate’s own front lawn.

The restaurant, overseen by highly-acclaimed chef Philippe Farineau, has a wonderful Afternoon Tea offering – presenting tiers of baked, savoury and sweet delights in a setting for all seasons.

Warm freshly-baked Farnham scones sit side-by-side with Langues de chat (light, crunchy French biscuits), whipped cream and homemade jams.

The savoury tier showcases the locally-sourced ingredients the restaurant is renowned for, offering inventive twists on traditional sandwiches: Chicken Avocado with roasted almond; Free range egg with truffle salsa; Burren organic smoked salmon with citrus jam on brown treacle bread; and Irish beef pastrami cucumber with cream cheese, chive and dill.

The sweet treats on top are appropriately indulgent. A Lemon Tart with citrus meringue; Rose Financier with whipped chocolate ganache, Velvet Cake, coffee chocolate layered Opera cake and an Earl Grey and Cointreau Religieuse.

The original stone walls and exposed brickwork in The Cedar Rooms are softened by touches of natural wood, leaf-shaped tableware, cosy velvet banquettes and club chairs to create a relaxed, atmospheric environment perfect for whiling away an afternoon spent in celebration, relaxation or pure indulgence.

Farnham Estate’s Afternoon Tea is served with black, green and herbal teas and coffees from 1pm to 3pm every Tuesday to Saturday. The offering, which is available to adults only, is €34.00 per person, €45.00 per person with a glass of Prosecco or €54.00 per person with a glass of premium Champagne.

Pre-booking is essential so reserve your afternoon’s indulgence at Farnham Estate.
